Amazing Skin Game Changer//Good Genes

Wanted to check in really quick to chat about my new obsession. In my Sephora Haul video I talked about a product I was SO pumped to try — the Sunday Riley Good Genes treatment. Yes, it is amazing! SO amazing! Good Genes is a lactic acid treatment that will help brighten your skin along with plumping your fine lines. I’ve tried it now for two weeks and I’m in love.

Sunday Riley Good Genes

How I use it: A few ways. Usually, I apply it at night after cleansing my face and applying my toner (usually P50). The bottle says to put a few pumps on your face but AH! You would run out of product SO fast if you did that. I usually can spread one pump pretty liberally all over my face. I don’t have any left over for my beck, but this product is so expensive that I’m okay with using this only for my face even though it IS so important to apply most products to your neck and chest. That shit ages too, people! After I apply it to my face I let it chill out for a few minutes and then I put on a moisturize and then head to bed. Easy. The other way I use this bad boy is by applying about half a pump in the morning after my toner (same as the nighttime routine). The reason I do this is because Good Genes has some weird magic that immediately makes your skin look really great. I use it before putting on makeup if I want my skin to look extra awesome.

Benefits: I have used this nightly and sometimes in the morning for the last two weeks and I can definitely see that my skin looks plumper and more hydrated. Additionally, some of my hyperpigmentation spots are less noticeable. I also have some tiny wrinkles near my eyes that I feel like have really diminished over the last two weeks. While I still use other products, this one has been the only one I have consistently used daily for 14 + days which is why I feel like I can attribute any positive skin perks to this baby.

Cost: $105 for 1 fluid ounce. Killer. See why I use it sparingly???

Things to know: If your skin is not used to chemical exfoliators (see this post for more info) then I would start by using this every other night. However, this guy is less likely to irritate your skin because of the type of acid it is, but better safe than sorry I suppose. I mentioned above that I use my P50 toner before applying this but that might be too much for some people. If you’re worried about your skin freaking out, go slow. For me, I don’t notice that my skin is any more or less sensitive while using. Is my skin normally sensitive? Not generally but it does have it’s hiccups.

Tips/Tricks: Caroline Hirons, my spirit animal skin guru, recommends using this as a ‘flash facial’ before big events. She mixes this with Sunday Riley’s Ceramic Slip and let’s it rest on the skin as a mask before wiping off excess. She says that it gives the skin an extra “boom”. I would imagine this would be a good idea before being photographed, maybe for weddings? or formal portraits??

Who would I recommend this for: Anyone. Everyone.  Got skin?? This is for you. If you’re over 18 and you’ve spent any time in the sun or ever had acne or texture issues then you need this in your life. Are you concerned about aging?? Need it! Expensive, yes, but worth it? For me, yes!

Where to buy: Sephora is where I got mine. You can also buy it at Nordstrom I believe and also on the Sunday Riley website.

Sephora Haul // Holiday Gift Ideas

Hi guys! Here is a little (big) video of all the goodies I picked up at the Sephora VIB Rouge Sale. Sephora rarely has sales, so the 20% off was very very worth it to me. Since it’s holiday time, I thought this would be a nice little show and tell since many of these items would make great gifts for any beauty lovers out there. If you’re interested in how I like any of these products, be sure to follow my blog by subscribing over there on the right and also make sure you’re following me on Instagram. My username is MaryS257. Did you pick anything up??? Will you be grabbing anything that I purchased?? Let me know in the comments below 🙂

PS. Sorry this video is a little out of focus… in my view finder it looked A-okay but yeah… it wasn’t. Sorry!

Sephora Sale – Tips/Wish List

Hi guys! The time is upon us — the VIB Rouge and VIB sale at Sephora! Wooo hoo! Praise Jesus!

Quick deets:

If you are a VIB Rouge member (the highest tiered member), the sale begins TODAY (November 6th) and goes until November 9th. You receive 20% off with code ROUGE20. If you’re a VIB member (base member), the sale is 20% off with code VIB20 and begins November 13th and goes until November 16th.

To find out your VIB status you can log on to and click “YOUR NAME’s Account” at the top right corner. If you see that it says “VIB Beauty Insider” you’re in! You can also ask any sales clerk in store at Sephora and they can check for you.

  • If you’re not a VIB member, ask a friend to purchase stuff for you. It’s cheating, but who cares?!
  • Stock up on things you would be repurchasing soon. For example, beauty blenders will be 20% off! If you’re due for a new one, go ahead and add it to your cart so you can save some moola!
  • Consider holiday gifts when shopping the sale. The sale has no restrictions! Go crazy!
  • Around holiday time Sephora has TONS of “sets” available for purchase. I think this is a great time to try some smaller sizes of products that may be too expensive to splurge on normally.

My Wish List/ Sale Recommendations

  • Kat Von D Mi Vida Loca Palette $59- This is not “technically” a wish list item since I already own it, BUT…You need it too! It is amazing! Seriously…the best! The colors are SO beautiful and so smooth. Ugh. I love it. I love it!
  • Sunday Riley Good Genes Treatment $105 – Yes, it’s expensive, so the 20% off totally helps. I have been dying for this for over a year now. It is supposed to plump fine lines, restore damaged skin, and reduce hyperpigmentation. I cannot WAIT to try this. I love all of their products but this one is definitely at the top of my sale wish list.
  • Sephora Favorites Skin Wonderland $68 ($228 value) – If you’re not sure what kind of skin care products you want to try, then this gift set is totally for you. It has tons of my favorite products in it, like ExfoliKate by  Kate Sommerville and the Dr. Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Peel pads. They even have a tiny tube of the Good Genes from above. I think this would be a great little kit if you’re looking to dabble in some higher end skin care but aren’t ready to commit to anything expensive.
  • Anastasia Beverly Hills Self Made Palette $35 – I have heard great things about this eye palette and of course, I have to get it. At first glance this palette looks a little disjointed, but Norvina (the daughter of Anastasia) said on her Snap Chat that the colors are meant to be viewed in groups of 4…as quads. This makes total sense to me now and I can’t wait to create some fun and easy looks out of the quads she has designed.
  • Elizabeth and James Nirvana Black Dry Shampoo $28 – I hate washing my hair so I am obsessed with dry shampoo. This one is in one of my favorite scents so of course I need to give it a go. A few beauty bloggers have been talking about this guy and saying that it is clear (no residue) and doesn’t leave your hair feeling heavy and gross like some other dry shampoos.
  • YSL Le Teint Touche Eclat Illuminating Foundation $57 – I’m addicted to trying new foundations. I am excited to give this one a go because it is supposed to be illuminating and I am all about dewy and glowing skin lately. Reviews are good and at 20% off, the price is right. I am going to buy the color Beige Rose 20.
  • Sunday Riley Luna Sleeping Night Oil $105 – Another expensive dude from Sunday Riley, however, I use this and I am SO impressed. More than anything, I can totally tell that this reduces the size of my pores. Not for the prego people out there because it retinol type stuff in it. Seriously though, I would be buying this today for the sale, but I’ve decided to get the Good Genes above and then ask for a refill of Luna for Christmas. I probably only have 1/4 of my bottle left and it’s giving me anxiety!
  • Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush in Mood Exposure $35 – This is another product that I already own but need to recommend to everyone because it is THAT great. Mood Exposure is a soft plum shade and when I use it I find that I don’t even need a bronzer or contour. I tend to use this during the day because it gives some color and definition that’s perfect for the daylight hours. At night, I throw this on and add a little contour and my face looks flawless. It reminds me a lot of Nars blush in Sin. Tried and true. Awesome color.
  • Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed in Champagne Pop $38 – Best highlight EVER. I have three.
  • Beauty Blender $25 – Avoid cake face! Can never have too many of these.
  • Peter Thomas Roth Mask-a-Holic Kit $75 – I got one of these a few years ago and loved all of the tiny masks included. What a great way to try so many different products without spending an arm and a leg. Full size of each mask is usually around $58!
  • Sephora Sheet Masks Set $25 – No secrets here, I love sheet masks. With this set you can try a few plus an eye mask.

What will you be buying this sale?! Any recommendations for me?! Leave your top picks in the comments section.

Exfoliate Yo Bod!!!

A couple posts back, I wrote about a few of my favorite physical exfoliators for the face. You can read that HERE if you missed it. Anywho, I thought today it might be nice to talk to how I exfoliate this sexy bod. Sidenote: I have this weird theory that MJ won’t notice that I never shave my legs if my skin is really smooth. I don’t think it’s working….but I’m still sticking with it.

Winter is coming people and that means dry and gross skin..well, and sometimes even flaky skin..yuck! It is just as important to exfoliate your body as it is your face. I told a friend the other day, I’m lazy so I probably only exfoliate my body twice a week but if you’re die hard, every day is totally fine as long as you don’t rub yourself raw (thirteen year old boys probably hear those last few words far too often).

I’ve tried TONS of body scrubs but only loved a few. I am so picky about any residue leftover….in that, well, I don’t want any residue leftover! Some scrubs put a bunch of oily crap in them to make your skin soft after, but it just grosses me out and it clogs my razors…..Yuck. I want to put my own lotion on after I shower and not have to worry about feeling like an oil slick.

Here are MY favorites — what are yours?!

Exfoliate Yo Bod!

  1. Bliss Blood Orange + White Pepper Sugar Scrub – I love this one for so many reasons. First, it leaves no gross residue on your body after you rinse it off. Second, it smells divine. Third, you can use this before or after shaving since it’s made of sugar (not salt) and won’t sting sensitive skin. It is a bit pricey but as long as you use this on mostly dry skin, a little bit will go a long way. Sugar dissolves rapidly so I stand away from the shower stream and exfoliate everything before getting wet.
  2. Laura Mercier Almond Coconut Milk Scrub – Another pricey one, but worth the money! Again, it lasts a long time as long as you exfoliate before getting wet. This has sugar and exfoliating beads so you again, don’t have to worry about this irritating sensitive skin. It smells amazing and feels like a luxury item for sure. Safe for every day use.
  3. LUSH Ocean Salt Face and Body Scrub – Unlike the two mentioned above, this scrub is salt based so be sure to shave your legs and pits AFTER using this scrub otherwise you are super prone to irritation. I love this one because the granules are chunky (ie: effective and satisfying) but again, no oily residue. Since it is a LUSH product it has a bunch of good stuff within it, but because it is salt based, it doesn’t expire in two seconds like some of their other products. I would NEVER use this on my face… but if you’re bold, go for it.
  4. Supracor Stimulite Bath Mitt – When I am not using a body scrub (sooo…often), I am using this mitt to exfoliate my body. I have mentioned this in a previous post, but basically, it’s like a super loofah that you put on your hand, add some body wash, and scrub scrub scrub. After you rinse, your skin will feel so smooth and healthy. It is hands down my favorite way to exfoliate my body and it defintely makes spending $$$ on the ones above easier to swallow since I don’t need to use them every day.

Added benefits of exfoliating regularly:

  • Your shave will be closer
  • Improve circulation
  • Smoother skin (have tiny bumps on the back of your arms??? Exfoliate more! It helps!)
  • Helps battle acne
  • Increase chances of a streak free fake tan

Have any others that I should try??? Philosophy used to have some that I LOVEDDDDD but I can’t seem to find them online? I particularly loved the margarita scented one. Yum! Anyway, lemme know some of your faves. Love you guys. Thanks for reading. xo

Warm Fall Makeup Look

Hi ladies! It has been a long time since I have posted a makeup tutorial….those things are a bitch to edit.
